Performing Manual Failover for Maintenance
Manually declining over and declining aback can be actual advantageous for performing
maintenance on the PIX firewalls. For example, let’s say that you want
to advancement both PIX firewalls from software adaptation 6.1 to software
version 6.2. You can alpha by declining over to the accessory firewall by
entering the failover alive command on it. You can again ability off the
primary firewall, abstract all its arrangement and failover cables, and
power it aback on. Now advancement the software on the primary firewall.
Then reconnect the primary firewall, but do not ability it on yet. At this
point, you charge to booty some basal downtime. Ability off the
secondary firewall, and anon ability on the primary firewall. Now
disconnect all the cables from the accessory firewall, advancement its software,
and again bung aggregate aback in. Congratulations! You upgraded
the software on both firewalls with basal downtime!
