Configuring PQ CQ for Frame Relay

Configuring PQ & CQ for Frame Relay

Priority queuing for Frame Relay is configured using these steps:

STEP 1.
STEP 2.
STEP 3.
STEP 4.

STEP 5.

Step 1: Enable Frame Relay Traffic Shaping

Router(config)# interface serial0/0 Moves to interface configuration mode.
Router(config-if)# frame-relay traffic-shaping Configures a Frame Relay map class.

Step 2: Select Interesting Traffic

Router(config)# access-list 10 permit ip 192.168.100.32 0.0.0.3 Chooses source addresses for high priority handling.

Step 3: Create a Priority List and Custom Queue List

Router(config)# priority-list 5 protocol ip high list 10 Assigns an access list to specify traffic to the "high" priority queue.
Router(config)# priority-list 5 protocol ip medium tcp 23 Assigns TCP port 23 traffic to the "medium" priority queue.
Router(config)# priority-list 5 protocol ip normal tcp 123 Assigns TCP port 123 traffic to the "normal" priority queue.
Router(config)# priority-list 5 default low Defines a default queue for traffic not specified in another queue.
Router(config)# priority-list 5 queue-limit 20 40 60 100 Specifies the maximum number of packets for each queue.
Router(config)# queue-list 7 protocol ip 3 udp 6000 Assigns UDP port 6000 packets to queue number 7.

Step 4: Create a Map Class to Call the Priority List and/or Custom Queue List

Router(config)# map-class frame-relay PRIORITY Creates and names a map class.

NOTE: A map class in Frame Relay should not be confused with a class-map.
Router(config-map-class)# frame-relay priority-group 5 Assigns priority list 5 programming to map class PRIORITY.
Router(config-map-class)# frame-relay custom-queue-list 7 Assigns custom queue list 7 programming to map class PRIORITY.
Router(config-map-class)# frame-relay bc 10000 Specifies committed burst size (bc); Default = 56,000 bits
Router(config-map-class)# frame-relay be 5000 Specifies excess burst size (Be), Default = 0 bits
Router(config-map-class)# frame-relay cir 64000 Specifies Committed Information Rate (CIR), Default = 56,000 bps
Router(config-map-class)# frame-relay traffic-rate 64000 96000 Specifies the average and peak traffic rates.
Router(config-map-class)# exit Exits map class mode.

Note

The frame-relay priority-group command specifies legacy Cisco IOS priority queuing.

Step 5: Apply the Map Class to a Frame Relay Interface

Router(config)# interface serial0/0.100 Enters configure interface mode.
Router(configif)# framerelay interface-dlci 100 Assigns interface DLCI.
Router(config-fr-dlci)# class PRIORITY Assigns the class to the virtual circuit (VC).
