Common Characteristics

A typical distance vector routing protocol uses a routing algorithm in which routers periodically send
routing updates to all neighbors by broadcasting their entire route tables.[3]
[3] A notable exception to this convention is Cisco's Enhanced IGRP. EIGRP is a distance vector protocol, but its updates are not periodic, are not
broadcasted, and do not contain the full route table. EIGRP is covered in Chapter 8, "Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)."
