Implementing Software-Based CoPP
Software-based CoPP is based on the abstraction of a ascendancy even interface. All traffic
processed by the axial CPU traverses this interface, which makes it accessible to control
and absolute the absolute bulk of cartage destined to the axial CPU.
Figure 13-5 shows a simplified appearance of how the ascendancy even interface is implemented on
a broadcast platform.
As Figure 13-5 shows, the ascendancy even interface is implemented as a analytic interface. All
traffic destined for the ascendancy even traverses this interface, which makes it accessible to
implement a account action to absolute the absolute aggregate of cartage destined to the ascendancy plane.
The account action referred to actuality is configured by application the Cisco Modular QoS CLI
(MQC). Cartage is classified application chic maps, and the action accomplishments for the classified traffic
are authentic application action maps.

NOTE The Cisco MQC was originally advised to be a modular and adaptable framework for
deploying QoS application the CLI on accessories active IOS. Because of its adaptability and ease
of use, it has been broadly acclimated on Cisco accessories as a apparatus to apparatus QoS, security, and
other functions.
