CGMP
Switches flood multicasts by default. Cisco Group Management Protocol
(CGMP) lets a router tell a switch which hosts belong to which multicast
group, so the switch can add that information to its port-to-MAC address
mapping. Then when a multicast comes in, the switch forwards it only to
ports that have hosts belonging to that group. CGMP is Cisco proprietary.
